A piece of good news is that Roman was feeling a bit better after the Friday´s stage and hopefully, he will keep on fighting. However, the Astana team has lost its leader Vinokurov who broke his thigh bone. Roman is feeling really bad about it. Roman appreciated the solo ride of Andy Schleck in the 18th stage of the Tour in which he came home in a relatively big group, losing more than 30 minutes on the winner. “I suffered a lot today,” he admitted. Roman´s shown that he is no quitter today. He spent 60km in a breakaway in the 12th stage of the Tour and after having been caught he decided to save his strength on the final climb. He proved, however, that he has what it takes to take his dreamed-of Tour win. He is not giving up. He felt disappointed that his planned move didn’t work out. Roman was unlucky in attempt to catch the right group but he is not throwing in the towel. Roman saw today´s stage with the finish atop Super-Besse as one of the opportunities to go on an attack. Since he was suffering from start to finish after the yesterday´s crash, he was happy to have finished the stage after all. Roman won´t definitely have good memories of the 2011 Tour de France edition. His hopes for the overall position were dashed after a crash and the wrist injury. He didn’t succeed in taking his coveted stage victory, either. Today´s stage proved how badly Roman wanted to get into a breakaway and try to grab his dreamt-of victory but he wasn’t destined to be in the right group. Roman entered the final time trial that saw significant changes in the overall classification without any ambitions. Cadel Evans is close to his first Tour victory and the last stage will hardly change anything. Roman would prefer to forget the 7th stage of the Tour. He was involved in two crashes, lost the position in the GC and had to go to the hospital to undergo X-rays due to his wrist injury. Roman suffered through another mountain stage and was unable to stay in the first group.” I was feeling really bad today and I was seriously considering calling it quits,” he admitted. |
